English Reading Level Test
Use short English texts and listenings to find your estimated reading level from A1 to C2, then discover stories that match your level.
Each level has a short text, a few questions, and a short listening. From B2 up, the texts are a little longer, with three questions on each step. The next section’s level changes based on your answers, and the test ends when it has found your level.
This test measures reading comprehension and short listening comprehension. It does not cover speaking or writing.

Elementary: You can follow simple texts on everyday topics and understand common phrases, events, and reasons.
B1
Intermediate: You can follow connected texts on familiar topics and understand important details and simple implied meaning.

Upper Intermediate: You can follow more complex texts and notice connections between ideas, including meaning that is not stated directly.
C1
Advanced: You can understand complex and more abstract texts, including the writer's attitude, implied meaning, and subtle connections between ideas.

How does the English reading level test work?
The test starts at B1. Each level has a short English text, a few questions, and a short listening. A1 and A2 have two short listenings. From B1 up, each step has three questions; from B2 up, the texts are a little longer. The next section may be easier or harder, based on your answers. The test ends when it has found your level, so not everyone answers the same number of questions.
How long does the test take?
Usually 5–10 minutes. Because the test adapts to your answers, most people complete 2–4 short sections.
Is the test free? Do I need a membership?
Yes, the test is completely free. You do not need a membership, an account, or an email address to start. You see your result as soon as you finish.
Does this test measure my overall English level?
No. This test measures reading comprehension and short listening comprehension. It does not measure speaking, writing, or pronunciation.
